It was an entire 10 yards from the end of our driveway to her Under the Sea party. Score.

Sia was the epitome of The Little Mermaid herself (albeit a few years younger).

Lauren was so excited that Sia's cousin Braelynn (age 7) was there. As soon as Lauren saw Braelynn wearing the same dress she had sitting in her closet (Costco's finest), she raced home to put it on so they could be twins.

Shortly thereafter, of course, twirling was involved.

The party theme was executed perfectly, with a table full of sweets for the guests.

We caught Lauren looking longingly at all that sugar for most of the afternoon, until cake was cut and she could have her fill.

The first bite of birthday cake for a 1-year-old, especially with so many strange faces anxiously awaiting, inevitably goes something like this.

Sia made a quick recovery, however, and soon enough, bathed her face in frosting for a Kodak moment.

Norm manned the pinata, breaking it so eager little hands could snatch up the goodies (there was no real proper place to hang it so the kids could whack it).

Happy Birthday, Sia, you cutie patootie!

We can't believe (former) Nanny Kristen is going to have a baby girl. Actually, our most recent nanny, Lena, is also due with her first, a boy, just a month later! Some of Kristen's friends and family threw her a beautiful baby shower recently, and we were honored to be invited.
It was held at a quaint restaurant with a shaded patio, the perfect backdrop to toast the imminent arrival of baby Celia.

Kristen is a natural caretaker, and children simply gravitate towards her (as they also do toward her boyfriend Zac). Her arrival to the shower brought a crush of the special little ones in her life, along with grown-up sized hugs.

Part of Lauren's gift to Kristen's baby included several of Lauren's own favorite articles of clothing from when she was just a little tyke.
A gorgeous tutu skirt that Lauren received when she was a newborn and was photographed in around 8 months old:

And her ballet recital costume from when she was 3:

Kristen and her family seemed genuinely touched that Lauren would be so generous with her own things. But Lauren wasn't just giving these mementos to anyone. She was giving them to one of her most favorite people in the whole wide world.

Baby Celia, you are going to be one very, very special child. And we cannot wait to meet you.
