Surf City

Last Sunday we headed to Huntington Beach for an afternoon by the shore with one of my partners, Lisa, and her kids Ruby and Mason. While it was fairly balmy inland, for some reason the wind and mostly overcast skies kept it chilly by the water.

Lauren could not have cared less. She was just thrilled beyond belief to be reunited with Ruby. After all, it had been a good 4 weeks since we had seen her for a pool party at our house. And for a couple of 5-year-olds, a month feels like forever (actually, even for those of us significantly older, it can still seem like an eternity).

Wonder twin powers, activate.

Ruby and fam only live a couple of blocks from the beach, so we loaded up their trusty wagon, and Norm saved the day by pulling it not only on the street, but across the sand (probably 50-plus pounds including little brute Mason).

The girls raced along the water's edge, salty wind whipping their hair.

Lauren reveled in her touchdown dance.

Mama even got a little wet by helping our teeny wahine with her boogie boarding skills.

The kids found the photo op lifeguard stand, and went straight to work searching for stranded swimmers.

[Is it just me, or is she a dead ringer for Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone here?]

As the sun finally broke through the clouds, it was time to head on home. Not to worry, though. We're already making plans to get these buds together again soon.
