Gettin' Ready to Boo

To one little girl with auburnish locks, Halloween is a serious matter.

This past week, I bought the first of what will likely be several pumpkins (see, I just can't resist the smallish ones at the supermarket, and I'm sure we'll be a'pickin a big one at one of the local farms or pumpkin patches).

Given that Lauren has been under the weather, the pumpkin made for a nice art project during a quiet afternoon. She and Jackie broke out the pastel paints and fairy dust to create this masterpiece (of course it's just one proud mama's opinion, but man do I really love it.)

Inside preparations can take place while the calendar still says September, but outside adornments cannot emerge until the first weekend in October. That is when Mama and Daddy agree, amidst incessant pleas, to crack open the storage containers in the garage rafters marked for the day in question. We ooh and aah over each ghoulish memento as they emerge from hibernation, dusting them off with care.

This year a few of our treasured spooky creatures caught a bad case of the mold, so had to be buried in shallow graves (aka the trash can). As a result, our decorations looked somewhat sparse, and that just wouldn't do. How to alleviate the problem?

Hop in the car amidst gray skies and a few raindrops.

And hightail it straight to the nearest supersized Halloween store.

Where we checked out the offerings, both macabre and kinda cute.

Then back home, where Lauren directed the placement of everything, akin to a photographer setting up the perfect shot.

So now we need to wait 4 long weeks until the big night. But don't you worry. They'll be plenty of celebrating before then, hopefully starting tomorrow with a trip to our favorite haunted house and pumpkin patch with Kristen. I just might break out the witch hat for the occasion. Mwah ha ha ............................
