Things We're Thankful For Today

Over the past year or so, we've begun a tradition in our home. Every weekend, when our threesome eats dinner together (usually shoulder to shoulder in our kitchen nook), we go around the table and take turns saying 2 things we were thankful for that day. Lauren, of course, always goes first. She usually says she's thankful for the delicious meal and that we're eating together as a family (no, I do not bribe her with toys or sugar to say that), and the second item (or third and fourth of late) have to do with some activity that day she particularly enjoyed. Not to worry, she regularly tries to pull the funny card by saying things like she's thankful for the chandelier.

Well, today, we were thankful for so many things. For having 4 wonderful families join us for an afternoon of swimming, bbq'ing, dress-up, dancing, cupcake eating, kazoo-playing, and general merriment. For the high pitched laughter and shrieks of delight that permeated our home for hours - from the playroom, where every. single. toy. was enthusiastically used and abandoned in the middle of the floor (a sign of a really good party, in my opinion), all the way to the pool, where children raced each other on floats and tried to escape from the shark-mask-wearing daddy. For my remembering to take a moment in the midst of the controlled chaos to soak it all in and to see new friends being made, existing relationships deepen, and well, to feel fortunate enough to participate in the making of some special memories. Oh, and for guacamole. Yes, around here you can never be too thankful for guacamole.
