This little box from our local Michael's was da bomb. Cookies and all icing fixins and decorations included.

We started with these plain big 'ol crunchy gingerbread men (ahem, women).

The girls then took turns rolling the fondant themselves.

[Am so loving those ballet buns]
Each asked me to cut a dress shape for them out of the fondant, then I backed away and they went to town with as much icing, sprinkles, and candy drops as their little hearts desired.

The finished products.

[Harley's, Virginia's, and Lauren's]
I wisely told the girls they needed to wait to eat their cookies until they got home after the play date. It was clear to me what all that sugar was going to do, and trust me when I say these 3 combined don't need a bit more energy.
After the cookie decorating, there was still a couple of hours left to kill, so they filled it with a variety of activities.
Dreidel spinning.

Dress-up and putting on a show with Buttercup, Lauren's battery-operated enormous pony (they dragged that thing all over the house).

We even broke out our fairy village. Even Buttercup was enthralled.

I'll admit that having 3 for a play date has its challenges at this age (someone feeling left out at different points is inevitable), but on the bright side, I got to put my extensive mediation skills to great use. In the end, though, it really was a big love fest. I have a feeling these 3 are going to be buddies for a long time, and that makes this mama very happy indeed.
