Play Date Central

Play dates. Planning and preparing for weekend play dates is an ongoing project. Lauren so adores hanging out with her friends that if she had her way, we would do back to back to back play dates every Saturday and Sunday. While I certainly can't live up to those kind of expectations, I do try to arrange for something a few times a month.

Yesterday we had an after-ballet play date fall through because her friend got sick, so I scrambled and pulled off something magical for Lauren. An afternoon with her friend Ava, one of her best friends from pre-school, whom we have not seen for nearly 6 months, a lifetime in their little lives. She came over for a few hours, and the girls soaked up each other's company, playing Candyland, making videos on our computer, comparing lost teeth, doing a craft, and enjoying our seasonal decorations.

The craft I decided to test with the girls is one we'll be doing for some of Lauren's teacher gifts this year. Homemade snow globes! Hanukkah snow globes, in fact. The teacher gifts will include a Starbucks gift card inside the snow globe (removable of course), which I hopefully will blog about after they are done. For the girls' snow globes, we just put a blue ornament on the bottom in lieu of the gift card.

The girls had a blast with the glitter and stickers, and seemed thrilled with the final result. Best part is it was pretty darn easy.

So, yes, play dates are a lot of work. But when I see how much it means to Lauren? Well, the planning emails and texts have already gone out for next weekend.
