Lauren and I set the scene, then patiently waited for Daddy to battle traffic and make his way home.

The candles were lit.

The prayer was sung.

Then, borrowing liberally from the Cohen tradition, Lauren hid in her room while the first night of gifts were laid out.

After waiting the obligatory few minutes (to allow sufficient time for her excitement to build), we called for her, and she jubilantly sprinted down the hall.

The night's take? A beautiful menorah for mom and dad that she made in school (that will absolutely be our #1 menorah used in full rotation beginning tomorrow night).

And for Lauren ...............

Yes, my friends, those are Weebles. The package says it is for ages "12 months and up". But I swear to you, she has been begging for these forever. It was worth the $7 just to see her absolutely engrossed in imaginative play with them.
A close second in terms of sheer entertainment value?
Bubble-wrap-popping hopscotch, Lauren Jade style.

A bedtime story with Daddy, and we're officially willing to declare the first night of Hanukkah 2010 a success.
