You've Got A Friend

My friend Lisa and her newish husband Mike came over for lunch yesterday. We haven't seen Lisa since Lauren was a baby and have never met Mike. Even though we only live an hour apart, you know how life takes over and time just flies? I have no idea how years could have gone by without a visit. Somehow it just happened.

Lisa is one of my closest friends dating back to high school. She's seriously like a sister I never had. We shared some very formative years and experiences together and in light of that, it's safe to say that despite not talking or visiting on a regular basis, we really know each other.

As usual, Lauren was thrilled to play hostess, snatching our guests up immediately upon their arrival to give them a tour of the house before taking them poolside for an alfresco meal.

Following a leisurely lunch, the camera emerged on cue to capture the moment. I was stopped in my tracks, however. Little Miss Lauren insisted on applying makeup, first on herself (courtesy of a kids' eyeshadow palette she received as a birthday party favor), then on each. and. every. grownup. Oh yes, not even the men could escape.

[Sorry, I somehow missed getting shots of Norm and Mike primping for their close ups]

With frosty pink and baby blue eyeshadow firmly in place, we were given permission to begin the session.

Lauren missed them the second they left. "Mama", she sadly said with her arms wrapped around my neck, "when can we play with your friends again?" Soon, I promised. And you had better believe that I absolutely mean it.
