Smorgasbord Post

Dads & Doughnuts:

Yesterday morning was Dads & Doughnuts day at Lauren's preschool. First they went for sweet treats in the theater, and were one of the firsts to arrive. Lauren certainly didn't mind, because guess who else was already there?

As Lauren is prone to say these days: "Tobeeeeee!"

Dads and special friends then joined the kids in their classroom for a bit, where Norm spied some recent artwork on the wall.

[Translation: "I went to the library." She explained to me this morning that the art assignment was to draw something she liked doing with Daddy. Hence the drawings are of her and Daddy, with the shelf of books between them. The way she is drawing hands on people lately makes me laugh so hard. They look to me like bursting fireworks, which is perfectly fitting since her favorite song by far these days is "Firework" by Katy Perry].

Certainly a special morning for this father and daughter.

Aquanette Replay:

This morning Lauren decided she needed to see the "Splash" video for the 1,000th time. In the middle of it, she darted off and 30 seconds later came tearing back into the room with one of my rubber Splash wigs. The better for her to get into full Aquanette character, of course.

February Beach Day:

At 11 a.m. this morning, the outside temp hit 75 degrees F, and the sky looked like this:

What do you do when that happens (besides be villified by everyone who lives in climates that are subfreezing)?

Throw your bathing suits on, pack an umbrella and snacks, and head for the nearest beach.

Then spend the next several hours watching your child pretty much do nothing but run nonstop as follows: into the water, along the water's edge, out of the water, back into the water, along the water's edge ......................... you get the picture.

Lauren's score for the day on a scale of 1 to 10? A 12. Not too shabby.
