So Much To Be Thankful For

Happy Thanksgiving! That's how I greeted Lauren when I went into her room first thing this morning (she quietly talked and hung out in her crib until 7 a.m., woot woot!!) She responded by asking "Is it Thanksgiving right now?" Yes, impatient as ever. Of course, her comment was immediately followed by the question - "Do we get pie?" Lauren has never had pie, but we've been talking up a storm about pumpkin pie, plus she'd been hearing about it everywhere from school to dance class. Of course, I told her, we will have pie after dinner tonight.

I proceeded to explain that Thanksgiving was a time to be thankful for so many things in our lives. "Lauren, I asked, tell Mommy what you are thankful for." She furrowed her little brow for a second, then a light of recognition went on and she confidently responded: "Pie!" Of course I started laughing so hard I fell to the floor in a heap, which certainly amused her to no end. Feeling a need to be a responsible parent, I sat her on her bed and told her all of the things I was thankful for, including all of our family, our friends, our health, our home, and all of the love we shared. After hearing my list, I then asked her again what she was thankful for. This time, there was no pause whatsoever: "Pie!" After seeing my look of feigned concern, she quickly added, "and turkey . . . and stuffing!" Followed by bursts of laughing from both of us. I'm so thankful for my comedienne angel.
