Pre-performance, besties Harley and Virginia came over for hair and makeup.

Once at the theatre, Lauren's basic outfit was spruced up with an special blue ribbon on her leotard and flower in her hair to differentiate her from every other girl at her level.

Her performance was fabulous; the routines this year were more difficult but she danced with a level of poise and confidence normally reserved for the relative anonymity of our home. My parents, who of course were there to support her, fully agreed - for the first time on stage, it looked like she was having an absolute blast.
Their judge this year was again from a prominent ballet company in New York. Our girl more than earned her medal (double bronze with distinction).

There was a moment of drama post-awards ceremony when Lauren learned that another girl in her class had received a silver medal which ranked higher than hers. I took it as a teaching moment, to help her see that life does not always seem fair, but that as long as she did the best she possibly could then that is all that mattered, and that we love and are so very proud of her for giving her best (plus I emphasized that the bronze color was so much prettier and cooler than the silver....).

Bravo, Lauren Jade.
