Meeting the Kids

You know how sometimes when you meet the family of a significant other, it's really, really nerve wracking? Especially when that family includes two teenagers?

Yeah, well, this absolutely is not one of those stories.

It was time for me to meet Joe's children, even though I already had a good sense of who they were from listening to Joe rave about them for several months.

So we invited KK and Philip to my house for a bbq on a beautiful weekend afternoon.

Joe grilled some eggplant, crusty bread, and smoked chicken courtesy of Whole Foods.

I whipped up some guacamole (tweaked the recipe with some cilantro and jalapeno pepper), and the four of us hung out for a few hours, getting to know each other.

So, how was it? Let's just say there's a reason Joe is such a proud papa.

It was comfortable, fun, and just felt.......right. Not that I ever really had any concerns about how it would go, but I still think we all kind of breathed a collective sigh of relief.

Part of me really wished Lauren had also been there, but at the same time I knew there would be plenty of time in the future for her to get to know them and this really allowed me an initial opportunity to completely relax and be present. Still, I'm looking forward to hopefully many more occasions when we can bring all of our kids and families together.
