The Muppet Pup

Last Saturday, Lauren and I drove to LAX after her ballet class. We entered the American Airlines Priority Shipping office and waited. The excitement in the air was palpable.

After about 30 minutes, the attendant emerged from the back with a crate. Our crate containing our Mojo.

He was silent as a mouse and so scared at first he cowered in the back of the crate so we really couldn't see what he looked like, other than a mop of chocolate brown hair (not fur, real hair that doesn't shed).

When we were finally able to coax him forward, his piercing green eyes gazing at us ever so tentatively, his face pressed against the bars of his crate, I only had one single, solitary thought.

We bought a Muppet.

A real live one.

I mentally scanned my memory to try to figure out which Jim Henson character he most closely resembled. After a few moments, I realized he was an amalgamation of quite a few of them.

World, meet Mojo.

We loaded him up on the Smarte Carte and wheeled him to the Terminal 4 parking structure.

Upon arrival, Lauren was the first one to open his crate and welcome him home.

We introduced him to the huge dog run we created on the side of the house, where he will be spending much of his time during the weekdays (starting next week, he will be able to let himself out from his crate through a doggy door directly into the dog run, where he will have toys, food and water).

In the meantime, he's been getting plenty of kisses and cuddles.

I worked from the house this past week to be around him and try to get him accustomed to everything.

He was actually a huge help in my home office.

And making sure I didn't budge from my office chair.

We have had some potty incidents in the house (my family room rug is securely rolled up and put away for the time being), and after a few nights of sleeping well in his crate in the family room, he decided that wasn't gonna fly. He found his voice and for a couple of nights I decided he turned into a different Muppet.

But after moving his crate into my bedroom last night, we saw marked improvement in everyone's sleep (he is just a baby, after all), so for the time being, I will have additional company at night.

Not quite sure what we've gotten ourselves into at this point, but Lauren absolutely loves him, so we're stickin' it out.

Mojo Muppet Cohen Katz, welcome to the family.
