In the past, my dad or mom would pick her up from school and take her straight to the dance studio, then wait an hour and take her home around 5:00 p.m. where I would be waiting with dinner (Wednesday is Wahoo's night, and Lauren is adamant about maintaining that tradition). Not much time to connect with her grandparents. Not to mention me.
This afternoon I made it home a little early (4:45-ish). Lauren and my mom were nowhere to be seen.
Then I heard them. The ivories on her keyboard, tinkling away. And laughing. Yes, lots of laughing.
I tiptoed down to the playroom (not an easy feat in 4-inch heels, mind you), and came around the corner to capture this moment:

Lauren was giving my mom a bona fide piano lesson. A quite good one, at that. I've rarely heard her sound so confident (and certainly not when practicing her keyboard with me).
It is completely fitting, therefore, that Wednesday afternoons from here on out have been officially coined "Nana's Piano Lesson Day."

Did I also mention that after school, they stopped at a park to play for 30 minutes, and by the time I came home, Lauren had already taken a bath and was in her pajamas?
So there you go. The all new Wednesdays around here. Only one word I can think of to express how I feel about that one little change.
Winning.
