To serve God and my country;
To help people at all times;
And to live by the Girl Scout Law.
That little ditty has been recited around here lots lately (more accurately, they've been taught to sing it to the tune of "Yankee Doodle Dandy").
Lauren is officially a Daisy (I swear her level used to be called Blue Birds when I was in it - what possibly could have been politically incorrect about that?)
And with her Daisy vest and purse comes some major responsibilities.
Like memorizing the Girl Scout Promise.
And selling boatloads of cookies.
I am adamant that we not do the cookie selling for her. The parents at work who merely post their order forms in the kitchen? Totally fine for them, but besides raising funds for the girls' troop, selling cookies is supposed to teach the girls 3 values: courage, character and confidence. They've got to get out there and learn those valuable marketing skills early, especially when they're small and cute and people are a whole heck of a lot less likely to say no.
I ordered 50 boxes of cookies for her to sell, sure that would be plenty.
Last Wednesday after school, Lauren came to my office. Shy at first with my colleagues, she gained confidence and after an hour of going door to door with me, not to mention 60 sales later, she was a pro.
Yesterday it was Norm's turn to impart his 20+ years of sales experience upon her.
First up, they created an attention-getting sign, with just enough glitz to garner the attention of all the cars zipping through the community.

Then they set up shop at the corner, Lauren donned her sunglasses, and proceeded to belt out to all who could hear: "Girl Scout cookies for sale!! Only $4 a box!! Come and get some!!"

After about an hour, they were done. She sold an additional 27 boxes.
Holy Moly. This girl's got a gift.
Now, of course, she's increased her original goal to 125 boxes. That leaves over 20 boxes left to sell (not to mention, 75 more for me to order).
As promised, I will not be shilling cookies on her behalf. But if anyone happens to be interested in a box or two, check out the video below to catch a glimpse of her pitch.
