Weekend RoundUp

Yes, I realize another weekend is almost upon us, but it's been tres difficult to keep up with timely posting lately. Lots going on around here to occupy my time day and night, ya know. So forgive me, but this post relates to last weekend. And I didn't want to skip it altogether, because we had so much stinkin' fun.

Saturday after Lauren's new ballet class with Virginia (so glad we are doing that, btw), while Daddy was immersed in his MBA studies, we headed off with Virginia and her mom to Irvine Regional Park for their annual Pumpkin Patch extravaganza. It was actually quite an ordeal to get there because unbeknownst to us, some massive running event was occurring that morning, which blocked traffic leading to the park. The girls were bummed because we had packed picnic lunches and everything. Resourceful moms we are, though, we parked at a local college down the street from the park and picnic'd on a miniature grassy hillside in the parking lot. Perhaps not as scenic as Irvine Regional Park, but do you think the kids cared? Nah. They had a ball rolling down the hill and collecting fall leaves to put in piles and jump around.

Thankfully, by the time our lunch was finished, the streets had reopened, and off to the Pumpkin Patch we went.

While the pumpkins were nice to pose with, we didn't buy one. Why, you ask? First, the prices were insane (we scored a couple of beauties the next day at Trader Joe's for $2.99 each instead). Second, we had no big strong men with us to lug the darned things back to the car (ok, that may have been the primary reason).

Still, the activities there were more than plentiful.

Such as a haunted house, bounce house, corn maze, and panning for gold.

The girls were especially thrilled to be big enough to ride the trotting ponies, and patiently waited for their turns.

I thought that all the bouncing would be terribly uncomfortable for them (especially since I know how painful it is for me if I don't get to post), but they weren't bothered at all and loved it.

They further amused themselves (and us) by striking poses in photo op panels, taking turns making various faces.

And our favorite one of them all.

This Little Piggy pose has been a staple for us since Lauren was just a wee thing.

Maybe it's because I'm her mama, but she still looks the same to me.

Virginia's twin brother, Finley, arrived from his soccer match just in time to join us in line for the train ride.

A long, fun afternoon with friends at our traditional favorite pre-Halloween spot. Next year will be here before we know it.

Last Sunday brought with it a glamour girl birthday party for neighbor Faith, who's turning 6. 34 little girls took over a local kid's hair salon that also hosts parties. There was a team of employees waiting to treat the birthday girl and her entourage to nail polish, hairdos, makeup, and dresses, all followed by a standing-room only runway show.

With the birthday girl before being glammed up.

Checking out the finished product.

[Yes, I know, way better beforehand]

With Karina, another neighbor in our community.

[Lauren, Karina and Faith will also make up a trick-or-treating trifecta in a couple of weeks, so stay tuned]

The girls strutted down the makeshift runway to roaring applause, striking a pose before retreating behind the curtain.

All that primping worked up quite the appetite in the divas, so they were rewarded with pizza and cake.

I will say that Lauren loved the curls in her hair so much that I was forced to hunt for my stashed away curling irons (from, like 20 years ago, seriously), and have been adding a few curls to her hair for school this week, much to her delight. Brings back so many memories of my mom using a curling iron on my hair back in the 70's (think Farrah Fawcett feathered hair, ha!), although I have yet to add a burned scalp to Lauren's repertoire of memories (sorry, Ma).
