Who's in For the Half?

I'm doing this post in order to hold myself accountable for what I've just done. My Rough-Fit trainer, Lindsey, is committed to building a home in South Africa for 2 underprivileged kids named Patience and Happiness. For everyone in the Rough-Fit program who signs up to run a half or full marathon before the end of the year, and completes 80% of the assigned training POGs (Plan of Goals), she will donate a specific sum that goes toward their home.

Many of the Rough-Fit folks are repeat marathoners, but I've never really run more than 4-5 miles, and honestly am not comfortable doing more than about a 5k, which still hurts plenty. But I like a challenge (within reason). So I've decided to do a half marathon, or at least attempt it. Of course it would probably have been better for me to attempt a 10k first, but I've never liked to take the easy route. Why am I doing this? As Lindsey told me yesterday, "Run because you can." So there you go. Today I registered and paid my entry fee for the Silver Strand Half Marathon on November 15, 2009 in Coronado (San Diego County), California. A flat course that sounds like it won't be all insane super human athletes (they even allow inline and roller skates on the course). And it's shortly before Thanksgiving so I'll really be able to justify indulging in the stuffing and cranberry sauce this year. So, who's in? Any volunteers to be my training partner or to register for another race wherever you're located so we can support each other while training?
