The Last Days of Summer

It has been warm and beautiful here the past few weeks. I can't believe that Lauren starts preschool this coming week! She will only be going 2 mornings a week for 90 minutes between now and January, and will be accompanied by an adult (me, Nana, or Nanny Kristen) as part of the JCC's transition program, but it's still a big step. We're excited for her to meet new kids and potential playmates, and to soak up as much learning as possible.

While the pool is still in full rotation almost every afternoon/evening, Lauren also loves playing in the street in front of the house. Whether it's looking for critters or helping mommy "weed", she's an outside child (save when it's over 90 degrees). One of her favorite things to do is watch daddy fly down the driveway on his skateboard and race around the culdesac (yes, a 42-year-old in flip flops on a skateboard, sigh). No longer content to watch daddy whizzing along, she now is eager to join him. She also loves her scooter, even though she can't really push it just yet (it was another gift from neighbor Megan), but she certainly keeps trying. While she's naturally hesitant about certain things, we're seeing a real risktaker side to her lately. Hmmm, come to think of it, a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wristguards should definitely be high up on my shopping list now. They must make them for a 2 year old skater gal - after all, that's probably about the age Tony Hawk and Ryan Sheckler got their starts, don't ya think?
