Park to Park

Two weekends ago the weather was absolutely perfect.  For us, at least.  No warmer than the mid-70s, a cool breeze, the type of conditions to inspire a song or poem.  Or a very special trip.

Of course, there's only one place to go when it's that gorgeous.  Outside.  As in, for the entire day.  And not just to one park, but two.  Yes, you heard that right.  We went out on a limb and park-hopped on a Saturday afternoon (and I'm not talking Disney here).

First up?

Irvine Regional Park.  Grabbed us some Subway, stopped off for a frisbee, and we rolled on into one of the coolest places in Orange County.

Lauren immediately befriended two sisters, and they spent the better part of two hours exploring their surroundings.

Something about being with children who squeal in delight upon discovering what may appear to be relatively mundane items gets me revved up to join in on the fun (to a 7-year-old, finding a little kid playground in the midst of an enormous nature park becomes reason for celebration).

I hope I never, ever, lose the desire to be "that" mom who is silly and participates with her child in adventurous play.

There were, of course, plenty of opportunities for photo ops.

Then it was off to Park #2 to lounge on a blanket (note to self: please invest in a much larger picnic/beach blanket this summer) and fly Lauren's new kite (given to her by Kristen on her birthday).

Another new friend was quickly recruited to take part in the experience.

Not one to be left out?  The aforementioned mama.

Us grownups were windswept and tired from the sun (not to mention all that playing), so we called it a day.

Well, not exactly.  We actually headed back to my house to meet KK and go grab burgers followed by Casey's Cupcakes  (wow, so good).  And let's not forget the hummingbird incident that greeted us when we arrived home after dinner.  But that's a story for another time.........................................
