Oh yes. We are ready for our favorite holiday of the year again. Decorations are up, candy is purchased (and already being pilfered on a nightly basis by moi; note to self: must stop). Unfortunately, most neighbors seem to have lost the spooky spirit. Why so few houses are decorated this year is beyond me. I don't care if people's kids have grown and left the nest. As long as I live in an area where there are any kids whatsoever, I'm going to proudly fly the giant spider and hang skeletons and ghosts.
Amazingly enough, we got Boo'd very early this year (if you don't remember what it means to get "Boo'd", go ahead and Google it). In past years, it didn't happen until the day before or the day of Halloween. And since Lauren can now read, I can't divulge exactly who was responsible for Boo'ing us in prior years. But this year, she was beyond thrilled to open the front door and see a Boo bag filled with goodies. Of course, her friend Faith down the street proudly announced she Boo'd us when we saw her over the weekend (despite her mom waving her arms to try to stop her from divulging the truth to us). Ahh, but Faith is 7, and I like the fact that she still cannot tell a lie. Gives me hope.
We reciprocated the Boo gesture to Faith tonight. A super secret stealth mission around 7 p.m. Lauren in her jammies and robe, clutching our Boo bag and sign, and Mojo right alongside, leading the charge. We serpentined down the street (think the original "In-Laws" film) and saw Faith's house lit up like a Christmas tree (or, perhaps more fittingly, a Halloween pumpkin on fire), with her garage door open and people milling about inside.
How would we ever be able to cross the street and leave the Boo bag on her doorstep without being noticed? A conundrum. We decided to use the fastest feet to make the delivery. I waited on the curb with Mojo, while Lauren dashed across the street, placed the bag (or more accurately, bucket) on the doormat, then sprinted back to me. The three of us then turned and ran like hell back to our house, high-fiving along the way.
Yep, we are gearing up for the big night. She is so excited about her costume. Has known exactly what she was going to be since June. Can't wait for the big reveal.
Now we just have to decide what Mojo's costume should be. Any ideas? A devil is the only one that immediately comes to mind.
