Of course one of the first things I did upon arriving home this afternoon was to check on the hummingbird nest.
Still perched on the palm frond. So far so good. Daddy bird saw me coming and was none too happy to have a living being approach his creation (Lauren informed me quite positively last week that it's the Daddy hummingbirds who sit on the eggs and not the Mommies).

All I wanted was to snap a quick pic in order to see if the eggs were still intact (the nest is still too high and far away to actually see without moving the frond). I got the pics, but everything looked kinda dark on my camera playback.
I ran into the office to download the images, holding my breath.
I had my answer pretty quickly.
No white in that nest. No eggs. None. Nada.

Those sweet babies done went and hatched. Yes they did. Those are matted, wet feathers. I can see 2 bodies and one head.
I swear to you, I started jumping around doing a victory dance like a football player who just scored the winning touchdown at the Super Bowl. And you know what? It felt damn good.
They're not out of the woods yet. We plan to keep a daily vigil until those precious siblings take flight.
It's good to be home.
