Get her out into the big open world, however, and she has a tendency to retreat and become more hesitant, her bravado tempered until she can test the waters of her audience and surroundings.
That's exactly why I love The Little Gym. She has been taking classes there for a couple of years now and really loves the teachers and environment. It's totally low pressure, low key gymnastics skills, where kids are praised and self confidence is fostered. Plus, at the end of each semester, they have a little show for the parents. Since Lauren is so comfortable in her surroundings there, she is nothing short of ecstatic when showtime comes around.
Yesterday was the end of another semester. Nana, Pop-Pop Mark, Lena, and I attended. I couldn't help capturing the moment when Lauren arrived with Lena and spotted the rest of us waiting in the lobby.

Without hesitation or fear, Lauren ran through her routines with the assistance and encouragement of her caring instructors.
Floor routine:

Followed by the bar routine:

And concluding with the balance beam:

While she did a wonderful job and we were very proud, I especially loved our little ham's performance in between her routines.

On my rush from work to the show, I thought to quickly stop and get some flowers for her. Oh, the expression of pure joy on her face when she saw them! It was a good moment, indeed. Both the flowers and medal joined us for dinner out immediately afterwards.

We begin another semester next week - can't wait until the next show in June!
