Lauren has developed a bit of a potty mouth (mostly bathroom humor). We believe it is courtesy of one of the boys in her class at school. We vacillate between ignoring it in hopes that not placing emphasis on it will make it lose its appeal, or flat out telling her not to say those things (I know, I know, conflicting messages!).
Well, tonight before bed she playfully announced "Momma, I'm going to talk with my butt!" (The B word is a particular favorite these days)
With a straight face, I said "Honey, ladies don't speak like that."
Her response, without missing a beat: "But children do."
Wow. I couldn't even begin to develop a response as I tried to process how she possibly could have come up with such a witty retort.
I'm sure you're thinking that the proper thing to do would have been to maintain my stern demeanor so as not to encourage her, right? So why is it that I couldn't stop myself from completely busting up (to the point where she had to tell me to "relax, relax")?
Sigh. There's always tomorrow.

Kids are so smart! It amazes me how fast their responses are and like you said, we just end up at a loss for words!
