First up was 6 weeks of summer school, from 9 a.m. to noon four days per week. It was just down the street from our house, kept her skills honed, and still allowed her plenty of time for play.
In July she participated in a 1-week intensive dance camp in the afternoons at her studio. Oh, how she loved spending time with the "big girls" and getting to dance with them. Regular summer dance kicked in after that, with ballet, jazz and musical theater a couple of days per week. The bonus? She was the only student in musical theater, so had a private session every week with Maddie. Talk about personal attention.

She also had several treasured days of art camp, which saw her graduating from pastels to watercolors (this girl simply can't get enough of drawing and creating masterpieces).
And in a grand repeat from last summer, she did a week of tennis camp at the nearby racquet club. Only this year, instead of just staying for 2 hours of tennis in the morning, she elected to stay for lunch and swimming in the afternoon.
Not to mention, this year she sported actual tennis outfits. Oh yeah. Girlfriend worked those threads.

Warming up:

[If her face appears shiny in these pics, let's just say that mama was extra aggressive with the sunscreen]

[Running laps around the court = her least favorite thing to do. I wholeheartedly understand.]

After the camp ended, I was kinda hoping she would want to continue with tennis lessons. The club is so great and the staff and members are so friendly and low key, I could totally see us there on a regular basis.
But she is adamant that one week a summer to hone her tennis skills is sufficient. I should be relieved, right? As if she needs yet another activity to add to her already full schedule.
So we will save those swishy tennis skirts for weekend volleys and fun-filled ralleys. And next summer? We'll see you at the racquet club.
