The Pool is Open

We have been waiting for the air to get warm enough to naturally heat our pool to 80 degrees. This summer has seemed cooler but we finally reached nonshivering swimming temperature July 4th weekend - perfect timing!

We knew going to Laguna for fireworks this year wouldn't be an option, since it would take forever to make it back down the hill from my parents' house to get home with Lauren. But my brother Greg, his wife Stacie, and my 3 nieces were in town for the weekend, so we hosted them and my parents at our house for a bbq and pool party earlier that day. Stacie's mom Joyce and her housemate also joined us for burgers, hot dogs and fresh guacamole and chips (plus a good amount of wine and beer). Lauren was over the moon to be with her girl cousins again. They all spent several hours in the water, yelling and playing. While Lauren remained on the pool steps and refused to put her face underwater (please remind me why I'm paying an arm and a leg for swim lessons again?), she had such a blast. Here's a few snapshots of our afternoon:

The new pool noodles came in handy:

As did our trusty super thick pool floats:

I even managed to get in on the fun:

The girls took a mandatory rest when their fingers and toes got too shriveled:

But were then rewarded with ice cream sandwiches!

We love summer at our house!
